Het kan om verschillende redenen voorkomen, maar het komt vaak voor en is meestal ongevaarlijk. Om bijvoorbeeld brandend maagzuur te verlichten of te voorkomen, kunt u bepaalde voedingsmiddelen en\/of stress vermijden. Als het om voedsel gaat, betekent dit ook het verminderen van de hoeveelheid koffie en alcohol.
